With an Ontario election coming up fast, we hope that all political parties commit to support for Legal Aid and community legal clinics. This is particularly important for legal clinics in rapidly growing areas, such as Brampton, Mississauga and York Region – our resources fall far short of the need for help. The current government was halfway through a 10 year plan to increase funding to Legal Aid Ontario each year, with a portion of the increase going to legal clinics. That increased funding has led to the expansion of North Peel & Dufferin Community Legal Services in recent years. We are looking to all political parties in the upcoming election to vow to maintain the plan for continuing increases in funding for Legal Aid and community legal clinics.
