North Peel & Dufferin Community Legal Services has partnered with Industrial Accident Victims Group of Ontario (IAVGO) so that injured workers getting help from IAVGO no longer have to travel to Toronto.
IAVGO is a community legal clinic specializing in workers’ compensation cases. They represent injured workers across Ontario in their Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) cases. IAVGO is located in Toronto. Injured workers in Brampton, Caledon or Dufferin who are being helped by IAVGO can now have video interviews with their caseworkers at IAVGO instead of travelling to Toronto. We make them comfortable in a video conferencing room, with a large screen showing the caseworker in Toronto. From both sides of the interview, it is as if they are sitting across the table from each other.
This new initiative also highlights the valuable contributions of our community board of directors. One of our board members is himself a retired injured worker. He made the clinic staff and board aware of the issue of difficult it can be for an injured worker to have to travel to Toronto to get assistance. With the assistance of the dedicated staff at IAVGO, we found a solution.
